Day 1

Day 1

Leaving Tehran early in the morning, we move towards Gorgan through the road of Firuzkuh, having dinner in a diner on the way in the vicinity of Pole Sefid. Having lunch, we’ll pick up our trip, moving to the village of Alasht, where we’ll be spending the night – a village in the mountains covered by fog all year round which is the birth place of Reza Shah, the first shah of Pahlavi. The interesting point about the village is that shah’s pension house is located here as well. Getting to the village, we cook dinner, the ingredient being fresh and, of course, organic beef.

Day 2

Day 2

Having enjoyed fresh local breakfast, we’ll move to Sari through the road of Ghaem Shahr. Of course, if you’re lucky and your trip would be in mid July, you’ll have the chance of enjoying some sort of local wrestling competition held in the village of Locho near Babol. However, since we didn’t have this privilege, we went straight to Sari, taking tremendous pleasure in watching plain of Naz (Dashte Naz) and, of course, Iranian Yellow Gazelle – a species in danger of extinction. Following our journey, we’ll have ‘Kate Mahi’ in a restaurant, which will take us to Behshahr and the majestic jungle of Abbas Abad. We’ll check out the resort of Abbas Abad, a beautiful resort involving a breathtaking lake in the middle of which there are remains of an ancient believed remaining from Safavi era. Enjoying the district of Abbas Abad, we’ll check into a motel so that we would have more energy for the day to come.

Day 3

Day 3

Leaving Behshahr for the port city of Amir Abad early in the morning, we’ll hire a boat to get ourselves to the island of Miankaleh, a majestic island which is home to a variety of animals. Spending a couple hours in Miankale, we’ll move to island of Ashuradeh, an area which is at the entrance of Gorgan Gulf and is known to be one of the best places for hunting caviar fish. There is a restaurant on the island, and our suggestion would be trying one of the most famed types of caviar fish in Iran: Uzun Burun. Having lunch, we’ll take tour of the island, the end of which will take us to Bandar Torkaman in which we’ll get to know Torkaman Culture, a race mostly residing in the North and East of Iran. After checking the bazaar, we’ll move to Gorgan, and spend the night in a motel.

Day 4

Day 4

For watching the Jungle of Golestan, the largest jungle of Iran remaining from Jurassic era and known as Hirkani Jungle of Iran, we’ll move to the district of Nahar Khoran. After taking a hike in the jungle, we’ll set up camp and have lunch. After lunch, we’ll move to the stair village of Ziarat, a nearby village in which we shop for handicrafts.

Day 5

Day 5

Moving on from Gorgan, we’ll head towards Gonbad Kavoos, a city of thousands of years history, having experienced its best in Islamic era. What makes this city stand out is the fact that Gorgan, once known as Jorjan, was formed around this city; however, nowadays, it’s the dominating city in the province. In Gonbad Kavoos, we’ll check out the historical remains of the city, including a seventy-meter brick tower which is the tallest of its kind the whole world over (1000 years old). Next to this tower, there is a park in which we take some photos wearing local clothes. After lunch and getting some rest, we prepare ourselves for going to horse race, the most popular activity in the area. Even though making bet is illegal in Iran, the spirit does not seem to have extended to this area and wherever you look, people are making bets. The race is held in March, April, and May, mostly on Fridays; besides, it will be in either of these three towns: Gonbad, Bandar Torkaman, or Agha Ghola. Having watched the race, we’ll move back to Tehran which rounds off our trip.
